Glass 2012 Part I – Twelve Dallas Venues Spotlight Glass

(Dallas, Texas) - Twelve art venues throughout Dallas are pleased to announce Glass 2012 Part I: MASTER GLASS created in honor of the upcoming May 5th to November 5th “Chihuly at the Dallas Arboretum” presenting the famed artist's works in a garden for the first time in this five-state region.

Glass 2012
celebrates glass in its many forms by artists from the Dallas area and elsewhere in the U.S. It is a unique opportunity to share with glass enthusiasts, collectors, and the public the wide diversity of current glass making efforts and expressions in glass. 

Part I: MASTER GLASS
will begin at each participating venue on Saturday, May 5th from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Many of the artists will be in attendance. These special exhibitions will be on display through Saturday, June 9th, 2012.

Dale Chihuly’s dramatic glass sculptures will be on display from May 5 to November 5, 2012 throughout the 66-acre Dallas Arboretum at White Rock Lake. The artist will be here for a preview fund-raising Gala on Friday, May 4th and the public opening on Saturday, May 5th.  For more information, visit www.dallasarboretum.org.

An Invitational of More than 30 Glass Artists
CONTINUING THE CELEBRATION OF “CHIHULY AT THE DALLAS ARBORETUM”

Part II: Master Glass Invitational is an exhibition showcasing more than 30 nationally known glass artists and emerging talents from the region. The exhibition features many of the artists included in Part I. Each artist from Part I invited two colleagues working in glass to be included in the invitational.An opening reception will be held on Saturday, June 16, from 6 - 9 pm. The invitational will continue through July 15.

Part III: Glass and You will feature educational programming for public engagement with glass artists, their work, glass-blowing demonstrations, classes, and glass installations throughout Dallas.

The McKinney Avenue Contemporary (The MAC) is pleased to host the panel discussion Why Glass? presented by Glass 2012 on Thursday, June 28 from 6:00 - 7:00 pm.

Why Glass? will feature four panelists - three of Texas' best-known glass artists and a legendary collector. The artists are Jim Bowman, co-owner of Bowman Hot Glass Studios in Dallas, Carlyn Ray, owner of Carlyn Ray Designs in central Texas, and Tim Todd, co-founder of Sinaca Studios in Fort Worth. The collector is Dennis DuBois, who with his wife Barbara, has been collecting glass art for more than thirty years and has one of the premier collections of glass in the country.

Why Glass? will be moderated by Glass 2012 committee chair, Patricia B. Meadows. The MAC audience will be invited to a reception immediately following the discussion at Ro2 Art Gallery in Uptown at West Village, located at 3699 McKinney Avenue, Suite. 312, Dallas, Texas 75204.
