John Kebrle

John Kebrle, Home, 2003
Dallas, Texas
John Kebrle, designer and glass painter, has been practicing the stained glass art form since 1948. The son and grandson of designers and glass painters, John possesses stylistic capabilities ranging from the medieval to rock & roll to the abstract.
Kebrle was trained in the purest form of traditional stained glass art by his father, John Kebrle, Sr., who immigrated to Dallas, Texas from (the former) Czechoslovakia in 1913. On a recent trip to to Europe, John viewed frescoes by his grandfather in an old Hussite church in Vodnany.
John may best be described as a lover of tradition who is adventurous enough to stretch the boundaries of stained glass art. He cherishes traditions but also recognizes that the world changes and that innovative ideas are there along with contemporary art. These concepts have become part of his work.
When he designs for glass, Kebrle aims at being prolific in inventing ideas. Roughly one idea in 50 will turn out to be right for achieving his purpose.
Kebrle's legacy to the tens of thousands who daily walk past the windows he has created is beauty. He has brought the visual beauty of stained glass to hotels and libraries, messages of cheer and healing to hospitals, serenity to homes, intensification of religious meaning to worshippers, inspiration to colleges and universities.
