Kevin McGehee, Potential Realized, 2012
Fort Worth, Texas

Kevin McGehee discovered his talent as an artist in the medium of glass in 1998, studying under David Keens at the University of Texas at Arlington. Kevin spent three and a half years as a member of the team that assisted Keen’s with the creation of his art. During his tenure in the glass blowing program, Kevin expanded his knowledge, respect and passion in art glass.

“Glass can either work with you or against you. The ability to take a molten liquid and form it to create a piece of art is a process that continually amazes and intrigues me. I learn something each time I gather glass from the furnace.”

Kevin graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2005 with a BFA in Glass Blowing. In 2004 he became part owner and a featured artist at Grapevine Glass Studio a hot shop located in historic downtown Grapevine, Texas. In 2006 Grapevine Glass Studio relocated to Euless, TX and was renamed CMA Glassblowing Studio. The new location provided a larger space and with this, the artists were able to create large-scale installations while maintaining a relationship with the department store giant, Neiman Marcus. Kevin’s work is featured in numerous Neiman Marcus locations across the country. In 2007 Kevin joined four other glass artists to found SiNaCa Studios School of Glass and Gallery, a non-profit organization. SiNaCa Studios opened in 2010 as a public access facility with the goal of providing an opportunity to experience the rich tradition of glass as a creative medium through education and studio involvement. Kevin is a glass blowing instructor at SiNaCa, and plays an active roll in the day-to-day operations of the facility. As an artist, Kevin is dedicated to expanding his knowledge and portfolio. His most recent works explore the relationship between art glass and the world we live in, including unconventional helixes and elements of light.

Kevin’s blown glass works have been displayed at the University Center at the University of Texas at Arlington and the Dallas Center for Contemporary Art, and has been shown at various local galleries including Kitrell Rifkind, American Fine Art and Carlyn Galerie in Dallas, TX. He has participated in SiNaCa Studios annual event “Vitro Moda” that showcases glass as fashion. Commissioned work includes a large-scale Indian Blanket Flower installation at St. Francis South Hospital in Tulsa OK. Most recently Kevin completed custom light fixtures for the Live Oak Music Hall & Lounge in Fort Worth, TX.
